Summer Breakspot Program

Through Summer BreakSpot, free, healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks are available to anyone 18 and under all summer long!  Meals on Wheels South Florida is proud to be a sponsor of this program at sites throughout both Broward & Miami-Dade counties. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is state-administered  by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) and the Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness. The intent of the SFSP is to bridge the gap in nutrition during the summer months by serving nutritious meals to children 18 years and younger while school is not in session.

Children need healthy food all year long in order to grow and learn.  During the school year, many children receive free and reduced-price meals through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs.  When school lets out for the summer, many of these children are at risk of hunger or poor nutrition. The SFSP is designed to ensure that children have access to the nutritious meals they need to grow, learn and play during the summer months and to help ensure their bodies and minds are healthy and strong for the upcoming school year.

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online at: https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/USDA-OASCR%20P-Complaint-Form-0508-0002-508-11-28-17Fax2Mail.pdf, from any USDA office, by calling (866) 632-9992, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation.
